I would recommend spending a decent amount of money on a heavier turn table and upgrading the sound card on your computer if you care about quality. If you really don't care about preserving all the great quality from your vinyl then you won't mind but this thing can't really handle most music.
I bought this at Guitar Center for $60. It's pretty decent for a portable turntable if you want to take something small and light out to the record store to sample some music before you buy.
First of all, the $279 Price Tag can't be right. As far as archiving, this is a piece of junk.
It has a decent built in speaker/headphone jack/and RCA outputs. This is nice for when you want to listen to records somewhere other than where your main stereo set up is.
Also, the program it comes with kind of sucks. Even if you decide to buy this, don't pay more than $75.
Very reasonable price. Some of these records dated to the early 1900's. Comes with USB cable and necessary software, which I was not expecting. I used the machine to transfer old 78 records to CD. The results were excellent. The machine has input jacks for connecting a tape player to put cassettes onto CD.
This portable record player is great to take record stores, listening parties, etc. I wouldn't use it to try to entertain a party full of people, as the volume isn't very loud. It's great for what it's intended for.
This is terrible for djs that want to go digital as it is essential to maintain a constant pitch in order to mix another song. With that said it really doesn't need a built-in speaker either.
For example, battery operation. Is that really necessary.
This item is filled with gratuitous functions that should be removed to improve the model overall. That's it.
How many people are actually going to take this to the park and play records. To me it was designed only to transfer vinyl to digital format.
Finally, my biggest complaint is that the unit tends to fluctuate in pitch. That problem REALLY needs to be addressed by Numark and until they do so I would advise against purchasing this model.
I'll be buying a crosley next, and if that one craps out I would probably buy another Numark. None of my records were damaged by the player, and the speed never seemed to waver.
I called Numark and since it was out of warranty there was nothing they could do for me. On nearly the second anniversary of receiving this player, the table stopped spinning.
The sound was pretty good for a built-in speaker. The player was awesome.
It one of my favorite belongings. I gave it one star for every year of enjoyment I got.
I just wish it hadn't have broken in the first place.
